To Our Readers:
New virtual worlds market focus in online magazine format
The New York Times’ famous byline, “All the news that’ s fit to print,” might better be expressed for us as “all the worlds fit to explore.” This issue of The Seventh Sun is, in its small way, probably more akin to a virtual worlds Rolling Stone than it is to the Times—the format is that of an online magazine rather than a newspaper.
We now realize that publishing monthly in-depth articles on technology, business, legal, governmental, charity, and human interest stories from a virtual world “insider” perspective is really more suited to a magazine format. There are many fine publications inside Second Life that do a great job covering newsworthy events on a day-to-day basis.
We love serving the Second Life community—Second Life, after all, is the leading virtual world and home to our offices—as we expand our coverage to include the emerging marketplace of 2.5D and 3D online social networking and gaming. We hope that all our readers will benefit from this expanded coverage from our growing team of correspondents.
Not everyone, after all, has the time or inclination to download software and figure out worlds like There.com and Kaneva, or try out new products such as the OnRez viewer. It is our hope that our investigative story telling, graphics, video, and machinima skills will help you explore these fascinating new worlds, products, and technologies.
