by Pollywog Gardenvale
The newly released “Second Life Virtual Economy Key Metrics Data” reveals that while there has been a huge growth in the number of “No Payment On File” users over the past year, the number of “Premium”account users is in decline. The number has dropped from a high of 94,607 in June, to 88,797. This trend is expected to continue when the August metrics are released.

It is believed that many Premium account holders have joined the ranks of the No Payment On File users to become tier-free landowners. As shown in the second graph, the number of Premium account holders is like the topsoil and grass on the surface of the mountain of NPOF users. This trend needs to be watched carefully in the coming months and does not bode well for premium account residents with land holdings since there are increasingly fewer residents with the means to purchase land in SL.
As shown in the second graph, the number of Premium account holders is like the topsoil and grass on the surface of the mountain of NPOF users.
Of the mountain of users, 86% are between the ages of 18 and 44. Users in the 24-34 year old age group have spent a total of nearly 8,500,000 hours in Second Life, followed by nearly 6,500,000 hours for users in the 24-34 age group. Users younger than 24 and also those over 45, have accumulated 4,065,000 and 4,250,000, respectively.
