Who ya gonna call?

GlobetrekkerBob Lane, The Travel Man

Yes, travel seekers, you too can visit the rich and famous at Palm Beach, Paris, New York, or Los Angeles. No need to call Robin Leach, though. In Second Life (SL), GlobetrekkerBob Lane is your man.

STA Travel Island - STA Travel (130, 129, 30)—provides the same services found in any retail branch of real world STA Travel offices to online customers who have Internet access and an SL client. It opened July 12th to SL residents who would like the convenience of creating travel itineraries inside SL.

No, not virtual travel itineraries. We’re talking real flights to exotic destinations worldwide.

GlobetrekkerBob, Branch Manager of STA Travel Island, spent over three and a half years traveling internationally in twenty-nine countries. He worked two years as a travel advisor in Cambridge, Massachusetts. GlobetrekkerBob left STA Travel in 2004 to undertake a personal journey in which he traveled around the world in 800 days. He has returned with a passion to become the world’s first virtual travel agent.

If you’re budget-conscious (like most of us), strap on a backpack and spend time at GlobetrekkerBob’s student dorms. Hey, no rent required! Each dorm room can be furnished up to 100 free prims using an innovative menu system. All you need to do is claim the room. The menu lets you add furniture, change wallpaper, or clear the room and start over.

I claimed a room and decided to add some furniture. I was offered a choice of Cute, Future, Japanese, Modern, or Urban. I decided to try Modern, and selected a couch. The dorms are becoming quite popular—particularly among newbies—so act fast if you want to try one.

In addition to the dorms, STA Travel Island provides a free sandbox for residents to try out their latest creations. You can also visit simulations of cities such as Mexico City, Paris, Shanghai China, Chicago, and Cairo.

STA Travel posts actual flight information, including prices. And you can even sit at a terminal So, why bother to drive someplace to consult with a travel expert when you can log onto your computer and talk with a travel expert from the comfort of your home or office? As reported on PR Newswire, extending the real world value travel proposition into SL lets STA Travel connect with online customers one-on-one to hold real-time conversations about travel.

So who ya gonna call?
